MARBLEHEAD, MASS. (WHDH) - Police in Marblehead are investigating an odd series of bike thefts.

Over the last week, Marblehead Police said several bicycle owners have found their unlocked bikes stolen from their yards and garages.

Police said the suspects are leaving a bike of lesser value behind so as not to leave the owner without transportation.

There does not appear to be a pattern or particular area of town that is being hit at this time.

Residents are advised to keep their bikes locked up.

Police also say if you see anyone in the neighborhood leaving a bike and taking another, it is not part of a “bike sharing” program.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
