You’ve probably heard the saying "March comes in like a lion." Well the winds were certainly roaring Tuesday morning and that is just the warm-up act. Boston reported a gust to 56 mph in the pre-dawn hours Tuesday morning. Strong wind gusts knocked trees and powerlines down in a few locations across the street.
We have another powerful storm coming in Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. It may not pack the punch that last week’s storm did, but heavy rain and strong wind gusts are likely Wednesday morning and once again a rumble of thunder can’t be ruled out. The big question centers around how the storm begins. There should be enough lingering cold air for some pockets of freezing rain, sleet or maybe snow in some areas well north and west of 128. Little to no accumulation of anything is expected, but there could be some slick spots. The biggest impacts will be felt between midnight and 4 am in the higher terrain of the Worcester Hills and the Berkshires.
Any wintry precipitation should change to all rain in all locations by the Wednesday morning commute. The concern for the morning commute will be the possibility of heavy rain and ponding on the roadways slowing things down. Not to mention gusty winds! The wind gusts Wednesday morning will likely be just as strong as Tuesday morning only more widespread. So two hands on the wheel Wednesday morning!
As the rain tapers off Wednesday afternoon, much cooler air moves in. Danielle Gersh may have described it best when she said Wednesday will be "one of those funky days where the high temperatures come early." No doubt. Temps will fall from the 50s in the morning to the 40s in the afternoon. Meteorological spring may have begun, but it will feel a lot more like winter for the end of the workweek.
