It’s been a long time.
17 days in fact. That’s the last time we had dry air in place across Southern New England. Some people are at their wits’ end. Others, well, they just love the soupy summer days.
In any event, the end is near for the thick, muggy air. A front that is inching eastbound from near Albany, New York is going to provide us with relief as early as Tuesday night…but we won’t really feel it until Wednesday (or even Wednesday night on Cape Cod).
I never said it was quick relief.
Nor is it without baggage. Storms will fire along this front, and the ingredients are there for some storms to be severe tomorrow. Watch the skies from mid morning to late afternoon. Storms start in Western Mass. and chug eastbound throughout the day. Primary threat for these storms is heavy rain (with localized flooding) and wind damage. Hail is possible, but an outlier with high freezing levels.
One final push comes on Wednesday morning to firmly establish the less humid air across Southern New England – and finally bring relief to the Cape/Islands.
Thereafter, we’re on easy street for the remainder of the workweek. It’s a fine time to live in New England.
