BOSTON (WHDH) - 7’s Dan Hausle spoke with actor Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg about their new movie “Patriots Day” and why they wanted to make sure they told the story of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing in the right way.

Wahlberg, who grew up in Dorchester, stars in the movie and produced it. Wahlberg said he knows some people in Boston did not want a movie done about the Marathon bombings but he and Berg made sure they consulted with the victims and their families.

Wahlberg said he wanted to make sure he did the movie instead of having an “outsider” do it because he wanted to have it handled with sensitivity and respect.

“The main thing for us was making sure that we were accurate but also authentic to what Boston is and what the people really did,” said Wahlberg.

“Patriots Day” opens in Boston next week, with a wider release in January.
