PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (CNN) – Firefighters in Prince George’s County, Maryland are looking for the owner of a dog they saved from an icy culvert. The dog was stuck for hours Friday until his rescue.
The golden retriever was covered in ice. Firefighter Jesse McCullough climbed into the culvert to rescue the dog.

The firefighter picked up the frozen pooch, which the fire department named “River,” and carried him to safety.
“I basically had him resting on my knee and then come up the beams of the latter, just taking a rung stepping up you know, your legs can lift a lot more than your arms ever can,” McCullough told WJLA.
Crews put the dog in the back of the fire truck and cranked up the heat. When they arrived at the fire station, they laid out a bed with some food and water.
The golden retriever did not have a collar or working microchip, so McCullough said he hopes the owner saw news coverage of the dog’s rescue. The firefighter said if the owner is not found, he is not ruling out adopting the dog.
“It’s an option. I have to talk to my wife and 3-year old,” he said.
