FOXBORO, MASS. (WHDH) - Massachusetts State Police unveiled their first-ever drone Friday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.

The drone will be used to survey and photograph scenes as troopers investigate crashes on state highways. Police said the drone can take clear photos and measurements where traffic can pose a danger to other cars and officers on the scene.

Police said using drones will drastically cut down on the time and resources needed to reconstruct crashes. State Police expect to eventually have a fleet of the unmanned aerial vehicles.

An initial $20,000 investment was made for the drone. Police said they also purchased an accompanying mapping system.
