NEEDHAM, MASS. (WHDH) - The Massachusetts Department of Transportation worked quickly on its several demolition projects in Needham and along the Massachusetts Turn Pike this weekend.

Officials say Route 128 is back open for the commuters Monday morning after crews demolished the Highland Avenue Bridge in Needham over the weekend.

Throughout the weekend, traffic was detoured around the bridge as they tore it down. Officials say they completed the project quicker than they originally planned on Sunday afternoon.

The transportation officals also said the demolition of toll booths along the MassPike is continuing on schedule as well.

Toll booths have been removed in West Springfield, Chicopee and Westfield. MassDOT officials said the first phase of the project will be finished soon, and that workers are ahead of schedule in several toll booth locations across the state.
