MANCHESTER, N.H. (WHDH) - The largest teaching hospital in New England is planning a partnership with a Manchester hospital to increase access to specialized services for southern New Hampshire residents.
Massachusetts General Hospital and Catholic Medical Center announced the clinical affiliation on Wednesday.
CMC officials say the move means its patients will have more access to services for cardiac care, substance abuse, neuroscience and stroke care.
Officials say it makes sense because the hospitals are about an hour apart. CMC patients will get priority at Massachusetts General, and the Boston hospital’s doctors will train physicians in New Hampshire. The hospitals will remain independent, but will share resources.
Pending regulatory approvals, Massachusetts General also plans to acquire Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, New Hampshire.
