When it comes to Halloween candy, Massachusetts has a classic favorite in its trick-or-treat bags.
The website Influester.com polled more than 40,000 people to find the most popular candy in each state, and Massachusetts chose Starburst.
The Commonwealth was one of two states in the nation to choose Starburst as its top candy, joining Maine. The candy garnering the most votes nationwide was Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, while the most states – five – chose candy corn as their top choice.
Elsewhere in New England, New Hampshire selected Tootsie Rolls, Vermont picked Almond Joy bars, and both Rhode Island and Connecticut chose Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
Influenster also compiled a list of the top Halloween costumes state by state. Massachusetts’ top costume was the fairy. New Hampshire was Elsa from Disney’s hit movie, "Frozen," and Rhode Island’s go-to costume was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.
