BOSTON (AP) — Hundreds of immigrants and refugees are sharing a Thanksgiving meal with elected officials and advocates at the Statehouse in Boston.

Tuesday’s 15th annual luncheon organized by the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition is an effort to connect newcomers to America with the people in the best position to help them.

Guests will include Democratic state Attorney General Maura Healey and Democratic U.S. Sen. Edward Markey.

Organizers say speakers also will address refugee resettlement, the latest on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and other issues.

But coalition director Eva Millona says the primary objective is “to celebrate the courage, strength and resilience of immigrants and refugees” in Massachusetts.
