BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts will receive $61 million in federal funding to support local AmeriCorps programs.
Members of the state’s congressional delegation announced the grants this week, which were awarded to 26 organizations based in Massachusetts and will support more than 6,600 AmeriCorps members.
AmeriCorps members help with a range of projects from early childhood education to environmental conservation.
Nineteen of the grants totaling $18 million are going to support Massachusetts-based organizations while another seven grants totaling $40 million are going to national organizations headquartered in Massachusetts that operate around the country.
Every year, 75,000 AmeriCorps members partner with over 21,000 schools, nonprofits, and community and faith-based organizations to serve local communities.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of AmeriCorps. More than 1 million Americans have served in the program.
