YARMOUTH PORT, Mass. (WHDH) — Fire crews from several communities battled a huge fire at the former Anthony’s Cummaquid Inn in Yarmouth Port on Sunday night.
The former inn along Route 6A was fully engulfed in flames and crews could be seen using ladder trucks in an effort to keep it from spreading. First responders from Yarmouth, Barnstable, Dennis, Brewster, Hyannis, and Harwich responded to the scene at around 6:30 p.m.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
“Water supply was an issue. We’re at the end of two water systems — both Yarmouth and Barnstable, right kind of in between. We did have a hydrant nearby, but we had a hard time getting sufficient water pressure,” said Yarmouth Fire Chief Enrique Arrascue.
The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. However, due to arson suspicions, fire investigators are offering up to a $5,000 reward for anyone who knows who set the blaze.
The five-acre property, which is owned by Anthony’s Pier 4, is valued at around $2.5 million. The landmark opened in 1975 and has now been empty for nearly a decade.
“I think a lot of people over the years here have come here for meals. Some famous people have been here over the years, to stay here, as an inn,” said Deputy Chief Scott Smith.
