A Maynard firefighter has been charged with rape of a child after an investigation.
James Andrew MacGillivary, 59 of Maynard, was arrested at his home on Thursday.
He is charged with rape of a child with force from an incident that allegedly occurred in 1991.
MacGillivary was placed on administrative leave earlier in February.
MacGillivary has been a Maynard firefighter since 1986. He was placed on leave Feb. 5 after allegations were made against him.
A termination hearing will be held in early March.
MacGillivary is being held at the Maynard Police Department pending his arraignment on Friday.
