PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island mayor says he thinks the governor misspoke when she said he criticized toy company Hasbro.

Gov. Gina Raimondo told WPRO-AM on Monday that Massachusetts officials are “aggressively courting” Pawtucket-based Hasbro, to lure the company across the border and it isn’t helpful that Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien has publicly criticized Hasbro.

Grebien told WPRO later Monday he has never been an adversary to Hasbro, in fact he’s a fan, so he’s sure Raimondo made a misstatement.

He says the company is the city’s top employer, a big taxpayer and significant partner in the community and no one has talked badly about Hasbro.

Grebien said he’d contact Raimondo to clear things up.

Hasbro employs more than 1,000 people in Rhode Island. It’s evaluating several options for its corporate headquarters.
