BOSTON (WHDH) - Boston Mayor Michelle Wu helped to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. Monday by accompanying the Boston Children’s Chorus on piano at Symphony Hall.
Earlier in the day, Mayor Wu spoke at an event at Boston University, urging people to have patience in the fight for racial justice.
“In some ways it can feel daunting, like we haven’t made enough progress, that there’s so much to do day by day,” Mayor Wu said. “But we know that progress is not linear, and that it takes compassion, patience, love, and perseverance to achieve and persevere in that progress.”
Many kids and young adults participated in the ceremony at BU, where MLK received his doctorate in theology in 1955.
One seventh grader from Cleveland read his essay about superpowers, saying MLK’s curiosity was the best superpower of all.
Elected officials, clergy members, educators, and activists also gathered at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center Monday for the 53rd Annual MLK Memorial Breakfast, during which they discussed the importance of education in the pursuit of social justice.
