Passengers call 911 after MBTA bus driver crashes car, flees scene

MELROSE, MA (WHDH) - An MBTA bus driver was summonsed after allegedly crashing into a car and driving away from the scene in Melrose Thursday.

Police said the driver was operating Route 132 on West Wyoming and Whittier Street in Melrose when he struck a parked car. The driver allegedly continued on the route and concerned passengers on board called police. State Police located the bus on Hancock and Main Street in Stoneham. Twelve passengers were on board but no one was hurt.

The MBTA driver received a summons for leaving the scene of a crash with property damage. The MBTA is investigating the possibility that he was under the influence of prescription medication.

The MBTA said the driver will not transport passengers or operate a vehicle until the investigation is complete.
