BOSTON (AP) — Commuters may soon find out if they will have to pay more to ride the commuter rail, subway, and buses in the Boston area.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s Fiscal and Management Control Board is scheduled to meet Monday to discuss the proposed hikes that would boost fares an average of 6.3 percent. The agenda for the meeting indicates that members may vote.

CharlieCard holders would see local bus fares increase 10 cents to $1.80, while subway fares would rise 15 cents to $2.40.

If approved, the fare hikes would take effect July 1. The T says they would raise another $32 million annually.

Commuters have generally spoken out against fare hikes, demanding better service first.

Politicians say higher fares would hit the region’s low-income residents the hardest.
