The MBTA has been looking to cut costs, and rumors say they may get ride of their late night service.

The last time T drivers picked their shifts, the late night shift was not available, and some are seeing that as a sign the late night service could be eliminated from the schedule.

There were three public hearings held in January, but the MBTA says no decision has been made yet.

Late night service started in 2001 and was dropped four years later because ridership was low. They brought the service back in 2014 with extended hours along popular bus and subway lines. The extended hours cost about $14 million a year.

While a decision has yet to be made, the T says it will be easier to add late night shifts back in rather than take them away.
