BOSTON (WHDH) - The extension planned for the MBTA Green Line has been rescheduled for a later date.

The seven new stations that would extend the Green Line into Somerville and Medford are now scheduled to open in 2021.

Originally, the multi-billion dollar project was scheduled to open in 2020.

Officials said the delay is due to rising cost estimates that have caused the state to halt the project.
