A man was reunited with a class ring that he lost 60 years ago, thanks to the work of a Girl Scout troop in Medford.

Larry Reed said he lost his Winthrop High School class ring back in 1956 while at a senior class picnic at a park in Gloucester. Reed believes the ring fell off his finger when he and his friends were skipping stones at Half Moon Beach and he never thought he would see it again.

"That park we went to was a big park, it could have been anywhere," said Reed.

Reed, now 77, recently got a phone call from a Girl Scout troop in Medford, informing him that one of the scouts had found his ring. He met with the troop on Sunday, where they presented him with the ring.

One of the scouts told Reed that she found the ring last year on the same beach where he lost it back in 1956. It took the troop months of work to find out who it belonged to. Reed was happy to find out that the ring even still fits.

"I’m really grateful I got to do something like this. I’m just really happy and overjoyed," said the scout who found the ring.

As a thank you, Reed gave the girls money for a pizza party. He also built a birdhouse for the scout who found his ring in the first place.
