A piece of metal crashed through the windshield of a car with a father and young children inside as they drove down the highway on Tuesday.

Jonathan Naumowicz said it is the scariest thing that has ever happened to him.

His car windshield shattered when a large piece of metal came flying out of nowhere.

"I looked up, saw something, I wasn’t sure at the time what it was, get kicked up by the rear tire of the car in front of me," he said.

Naumowicz said he was driving on I-95 north in Canton with his 2-year-old and 4-year-old sons, Luke and Joel, in the back seat when it happened.

He said the piece of metal came crashing through the windshield and bounced off of the front passenger seat, tearing the upholstery.

The flying debris appears to be a broken piece from a large truck.

Naumowicz said he struggled to stay calm while he maneuvered his car from the high speed lane over to the breakdown lane.

He said he knows the terrifying experience will stick with him forever.
