A police officer who was injured on the job in Milford on Monday is now recovering at home.

According to the Deputy Chief, the officer was hit by a piece of construction equipment, then fell and hit his head on the pavement on Water Street, where a gas main was being installed.

The officer was knocked unconscious and was rushed to UMass Medical Center in Worcester.

Nathan Hathaway, 36, was rushed to the hospital with a severe head injury.

According to the Milford Police Department Facebook page, medical staff are "highly optimistic that he will recover fully and will return to his duties with the Milford Police Department."

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, along with the police department, is investigating to determine if any charges will be filed.

The police chief said his main concern is the health of his officer.
