Students at Fontbonne Academy are learning to comb a scene and solve crimes as part of a law class offered at the academy.

The unique project was developed by a parent who knows a lot about chasing criminals and solving cases.

Frank Matthews, a parent of two seniors and recently retired Lieutenant Colonel with the Massachusetts State Police, worked with the teacher to set up the project.

The crime scene, surveillance video and a 911 call were provided to students so they could work the scene.

The students were shown the scene on Tuesday morning and will work in two teams to try to find out who committed the crime.

The project is giving students a chance to get out of the classroom and get some hands-on experience.

The students will have until next Friday to figure out who committed the crime.
