MEDFIELD, Mass. (WHDH) — A developmentally disabled 17-year-old girl from Medfield who was last seen leaving a library Monday with a man her parents say she met online was found safe Thursday in Coventry, Rhode Island.
An individual was taken into federal custody Thursday afternoon, who is presumed to be the same man pictured on surveillance video leaving the Medfield public library with Thompson.
“She seems to be in very good condition very good spirits she seems to be doing well,” said Michael Thompson, Brittany’s father.
“I can’t tell you how relieved I am. It has to be because of you guys here and for everybody else that really watched out for her that she is with us today. It would not have happened without all of you so thank you so much,” said Maureen Thompson, Brittany’s mother.
“When we got the call she has been located in Coventry, great, great sigh of relief. We couldn’t get down here fast enough,” Michael said.
Police in Coventry say a motorist spotted Brittany walking with a man in the breakdown lane of a road Thursday morning.
“The person she had seen walking may be Brittany Thompson. We sent our officers out there and confirmed that was the case, ” said Chief Bryan Volpe,Coventry, R.I. Police Department.
The 17-year-old had been missing since Monday afternoon. She apparently agreed to meet with a man seen in a surveillance photo and leave the state with him.
Police believe the pair spent the last few days staying at a home in neighboring west Greenwich, Rhode Island.
“We have a lot of discussion to do with her yet,” said her father Michael.
The individual arrested is expected to make an initial appearance before a federal judge in Providence, Rhode Island on Friday.
