Police plan to file charges against a Boston mother who they said drove drunk and crashed her car with a baby inside.

Police said the 28-year-old woman drove down Vinson Street in Dorchester on Saturday night and hit at least five cars before flipping her’s over. Surveillance video from a nearby house captured the crash on camera.

An open container of beer was allegedly found inside her car. Dion Sturkey’s SUV was one of the cars hit and he said the rear door and side mirror were both damaged.

"Why would somebody do that in their right mind?" said neighbor Donald Brown. "It could kill the baby, nevermind her."

The woman’s 3-week-old baby, who was in a car seat, was uninjured and has been placed in the custody of the Department of Children and Families. The woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

DCF Commissioner Linda Spears called the incident an "absolutely awful circumstance." She said the DCF is investigating and will be assisting police.

The woman has not yet been released from the hospital so it is unclear when she will go before a judge.
