According to the Mass. Department of Transportation, the Amtrak signal failure will not be resolved by the start of the evening commute.
The only Commuter Rail trains that will depart South Station are those that serve the Providence/Attleboro and Stoughton Lines.
MassDOT is urging all other Commuter Rail passengers not to arrive at South Station. Instead, the MBTA will post new schedules by 3:30 p.m. indicating which trains will depart from the alternative stations.
The alternative stations will include JFK/UMass, Back Bay, Forest Hills, Quincy Center and Braintree.
For the evening commute, the following trains will operate:
- Fairmount Line: All trains will original and terminate at Newmarket station. A bus will take passengers between Newmarket and South Station.
- Framingham/Worcester Line: All trains originate and terminate at Back Bay station. Trains will operate approximately on schedule from Back Bay.
- Franklin Line: All trains will originate and terminate at Back Bay station.
- Greenbush Line: All trains will originate and terminate at Quincy Center. Trains will operate approximately on schedule from Quincy Center.
- Kingston/Plymouth Line: All trains will originate and terminate at the Braintree Station. Trains will operate approximately on schedule from Braintree.
- Middleboro/Lakeville: All trains will originate and terminate at JFK/UMass station. Trains will operate on schedule from JFK/UMass.
- Needham Line: All trains will originate and terminate at Back Bay. Trains will operate approximately on schedule from back Bay.
- Providence/Stoughton: All trains will originate and terminate at South Station.
- Hingham/Hull commuter ferries will accept Commuter Rail passes for Middleboro/Lakeville, Kingston/Plymouth and Greenbush passengers.
Amtrak also informed MassDOT officials that they are unable to determine if the Amtrak failure would be resolved by tomorrow’s commute.
The MBTA Commuter Rail announced more than a dozen canceled trains on Thursday ahead of the evening commute.
The cancellations come after a signal issue caused severe delays for Commuter Rail travelers Thursday morning.
The canceled trains include:
- From Stoughton to South Station @ 3:20 p.m.
- From South Station to Providence @ 4:08 p.m.
- From South Station to Stoughton @ 4:50 p.m.
- From Stoughton to South Station @ 5:45 p.m.
- From South Station to Providence @ 6:10 p.m.
- From Providence to South Station @ 7:30 p.m.
- From Worcester to South Station @ 3:55 p.m.
- From South Station to Framingham @ 5:15 p.m.
- From South Station to Worcester @ 5:30 p.m.
- From South Station to Worcester @ 6:30 p.m.
- From Framingham to South Station @ 6:45 p.m.
- From Worcester to South Station @ 8:30 p.m.
- From South Station to Franklin @ 4:20 p.m.
- From South Station to Norwood Central @ 4:45 p.m.
- From Norwood Central to South Station @ 5:32 p.m .
- From South Station to Fairmount @ 3:20 p.m.
- From South Station to Fairmount @ 4:25 p.m.
- From South Station to Fairmount @ 5:40 p.m.
- From South Station to Fairmount @ 7:45 p.m.
- From South Station to Fairmount @ 9:40 p.m.
- From South Station to Greenbush @ 4:52 p.m.
