According to figures released from the United States Census Bureau, women are now more likely than men to have a bachelor’s degree for the first time in the nation’s history.
The Census figures date back to 1940, when the Bureau began collecting such statistics. At the time, less than 5 percent of the population held a bachelor’s degree. Now, 30 percent of the country’s population earns a bachelor’s degree.
Broken out by gender, 29.9 percent of men have an undergraduate degree, while 30.2 percent of women do.
The stats note that while it’s the first time women as a whole have earned more college degrees, women between ages 25-29 had surpassed their male counterparts as early as 1996.
