Mother escapes after home explodes in New York

PINE ISLAND, NY (WHDH) — There’s nothing left standing of a house in New York State.

An explosion leveled the home Tuesday afternoon in Pine Island, about 60 miles north of New York City.

State Police say a woman came home and immediately smelled gas when she opened the door.

At that moment, the house exploded.

Police say she was trapped inside for a time, but was able to get her dog and crawl out.

She’s expected to be OK.

Her husband and three young children were not home at the time.

Authorities say the home did use propane gas, but the cause of the blast has not been determined.
