A Utah mother’s cruise in the Caribbean took an unexpected turn this month when she prematurely gave birth to a new son.

Emily Morgan and her husband were on the second day of the cruise when the mother suddenly experienced labor pains.  Thirty minutes later, the baby, now named Hayden, arrived.

However, the ship’s medical staff told the mother she had a miscarriage and that the baby ha died. A few minutes later, doctors told Morgan the baby was alive but would likely not survive.

The ship sped to a port in San Juan, Puerto Rico and arrived two hours early, which likely saved the baby’s life.

The Morgan family spent three days in Puerto Rico before taking a flight to a Miami hospital.

The baby, called a micro-preemie, is 13 inches long, was supposed to be born in December.
