HADDAM, CT (NBC )– A plane crashed into a Connecticut house, sparing the homeowner but seriously injuring the pilot.

Video of the crash showed the plane falling from the sky over Haddam, northeast of New Haven.

Investigators said it appears the plane had mechanical trouble shortly after taking off from a nearby airport.

The homeowner, Norman Hanenbaum, escaped unscathed.

“All of a sudden I heard this huge boom and then I see some of the rafters from the ceiling fall and my television fell over and the whole house shook,” Hanenbaum said.
