NASHUA, N.H. (WHDH) — Officials say they received a report that armed men entered a home and shot a man with his 7-year-old daughter nearby.

Officers responded, but when they arrived at the scene the only person they found was a homeowner who had no idea what was going on.

It turns out the 911 call had been a hoax.

"Resources are being used up, this is an emergency, our officers are responding in trained response to these types of incidents and we're going to react very seriously to these types of crimes,” said Capt. George McCarthy

Nashua, N.H. Police Department.

Police say the people behind these pranks often manipulate communications systems, to make it appear the phone call is coming from another location.
