SCITUATE, MASS. (WHDH) - The National Weather Service issued a Coastal Flood Advisory and several wind advisories and warnings for much of eastern Massachusetts as Hurricane Teddy made its way up the Atlantic Ocean Tuesday.

Barnstable; Dukes; Eastern Essex; Eastern Plymouth; Nantucket; Eastern Norfolk and Suffolk counties can still expect to see large breaking waves of eight to 24 feet in the surf zone and that is expected to last until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

A flood advisory was in effect for low-lying areas and Scituate, residents scrambled to move their outdoor furniture indoors.

In Cohasset, the rough waves splashed up into the decks of some waterfront homes.

Wind advisories and warnings are in effect for parts of Plymouth, Dukes and Barnstable counties which could see gusts ranging between 45 and 60 miles per hour.

Teddy passed about 330 miles east-southeast of Cape Cod around mid-afternoon. That was the closest it will get to shore and is now moving away from New England.

An astronomical high tide also occurred, according to Chief Meteorologist Jeremy Reiner.

Residents are urged to secure their outdoor furniture and use caution while driving.

So far, no damage has been reported.
