DUXBURY, Mass. (AP) — Biologists in Massachusetts are investigating the death of a fin whale that washed up on a beach.

The New England Aquarium says the 55-foot-long whale was seen floating in Cape Cod Bay on Sunday before it washed ashore on Duxbury Beach on Monday morning. Aquarium spokeswoman Diana Brown McCloy says it appears the whale had been dead for about two or three days.

The aquarium will conduct a necropsy of the whale to determine how it died.

Duxbury police have closed off the area while officials work at the scene.
