Boston Mayor Marty Walsh announced Thursday plans to enhance City Hall Plaza, including the potential for an "observation wheel."

Boston has selected Boston Garden Development Corporation as the vendor who will work on enhancements for the plaza.

The company will have the opportunity to add new programming elements to complement existing activities on the plaza and add new temporary amenities.

The selection of Boston Garden Development Corporation marks the start of a three-year, non-binding contract.

The company proposed year-round programming of the plaza, including an ice skating path in winter months and a "beach" in the summer.

The proposal also called for separate activation of different zones of the plaza, which would still accommodate all the city’s previously scheduled events.

The plan includes the potential for an iconic observation wheel and restaurant with a liquor license that would be run by Delware North’s Patina Restaurant Group.
