New details have been released about a deadly crash at a Newton pizza shop on March 1.

According to a Newton Fire Department report, when firefighters responded to the scene, police officers told them there were people trapped inside the store.

The report said there was a "strong odor of natural gas" inside, which caused concerns of a potential explosion. In addition to the fire hazard, there were also concerns about a potential collapse due to the compromised nature of the building.

A total of nine victims were found inside, two who had been killed and seven who were covered with debris but alive and were pulled out of the building and transported to local hospitals.

According to the report, emergency responders found the driver still in the driver’s seat of the car after it crashed into the store.

Firefighters at one point were informed of a possible missing baby in the wreckage, so they searched under equipment and among the debris.
