Two sisters made an unexpected discovery in California Saturday when they found a newborn girl buried alive.
The baby was found buried along a bike path under pieces of asphalt and rubble.
Evangelina McCrary was on a walk along a Los Angeles river Saturday afternoon with her sister, Angelica Blount.
They heard the baby cry out, but could barely see her through the pile of rubble.
"I saw the baby, but not 100% the baby’s face," said McCrary.
Police are asking the public to help find who abandoned her.
"Anytime you have a helpless newborn child who can’t help themselves, it is frustrating," said Sgt. Marvin Jaramilla of the LASD Special Victims Bureau.
The baby girl, just a day or two old, was wrapped only in a hospital blanket when detectives rescued her.
Temperatures dipped into the 40’s overnight.
"If the child had spent the night there, in those conditions, the baby wouldn’t have survived," said Jaramilla.
Angel Flores lives near the bike path and is thankful the sisters and sheriffs rescued the baby in time.
"I can’t judge the person that did this, but something happened and this is the wrong thing to do," said Flores. "I’m just happy that they found the baby. God bless the baby and the people that found her."
