The NFL announced its "Super Bowl 50 Golden Team," a collection of the greatest players ever to play in the Super Bowl. And the Patriots are a bit under-represented.
The team was chosen by the Pro Football Hall of Fame Board of Selectors. According to the league’s press release, the players chosen celebrate "the best overall career performances in the Super Bowl."
The team consists of one quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, one tight end, two offensive tackles, two guards, one center, two interior defensive linemen, two defensive ends, two inside linebackers, two outside linebackers, two cornerbacks, two safeties, one kicker, one punter, and one return specialist.
In total, 22 players currently in the Pro Football Hall of Fame were selected.
Only one active player was chosen – former Patriots and current Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri. No other Patriots players made the team.
The Steelers, who are tied with the Patriots for the most Super Bowl appearances with 8, have 8 players named to the squad.
Additionally, a coach was chosen – former Steelers coach Chuck Noll.
Joe Montana, who is tied with Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and former Steelers QB Terry Bradshaw for the most Super Bowl rings by a quarterback with 4, was named the quarterback of the squad.
