DOVER, N.H. (AP) — A New Hampshire man has been arraigned on a manslaughter charge in connection with a toddler's death.

Thirty-year-old Jared Pope of Somersworth has been charged with smothering 2-year-old Noah York to death.

His bail was set at $250,000 at his arraignment Monday.

Police were called to a Somersworth apartment on Friday evening for a child in distress. Police say the child, Noah, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

WMUR-TV reports Pope allegedly wrapped Noah in blankets, then secured them with a rope to stop the child from fussing. He's also accused of placing a 15-pound duffel bag on the child before leaving the apartment for about 15 minutes.

Pope is being represented by the Strafford County Public Defender's office. A message left at the office wasn't immediately returned Monday.
