Two brothers whose canoes capsized on a remote lake on Maine’s Allagash Wilderness Waterway have been assisted by boy and girl scouts from New Hampshire.

Sixty-seven-year-old Michael Fiori, of Brunswick, said scouts who were camping nearby helped him to shore and warmed him up Monday evening.

Scouts from Crew 345 in Kingston, New Hampshire, then notified an Allagash ranger and began searching for Fiori’s brother. Wardens eventually found 70-year-old Larry Fiori, of Kennebunk, clinging to a life jacket and gas tank. He’d been in the water for two hours and was treated for hypothermia.

It’s unclear what happened, but a squall had passed through.
