PLYMOUTH, N.H. (WHDH) — Shoppers in many areas of the country will be able to get their shopping done earlier than usual, as some stores will open on Thanksgiving. But one New Hampshire store owner resisted the change in tradition.

Holly Cassiano is a franchise owner of Sears in Plymouth, New Hampshire. She said that enough is enough when it comes to the holiday shopping rush.

Cassiano spoke with 7News and said there was a corporate memo that stores should open for the holidays, but she wasn’t giving in.

"I value family and would like to see everybody be home with their families Thanksgiving,” Cassiano said.

Massachusetts has blue laws preventing retailers from opening on Thanksgiving, but New Hampshire doesn’t have the same rules.

"Why are we allowing corporate headquarters, corporate companies, to take over our holiday rights? It's just not what America was meant to be,” Cassiano said.

She said she’s going to lose out on about $20,000 in revenue, but for her and her employees they holidays are priceless.

"You can’t put a dollar price on time spent with your family, you just can't,” she said.

The company could impose financial penalties on Cassiano, but she said it’s worth it.

"I believe in this matter, and I’m going to take it to the end. There's nothing you can do to me that's going to affect me in any way.”

Sears said they encouraged franchisees to open on Thanksgiving because that’s what customers want.
