NEW YORK CITY (WHDH) — A very special Bay State teen competed in the New York City marathon.
Norwood native Matt Brown and a friend finished the race in 4 hours and 46 minutes Sunday.
Brown was paralyzed while playing hockey for Norwood High in 2010.
He was initially denied the chance to be in the New York marathon, as rules stated runners had to propel themselves.
Marathon officials later decided to let brown be pushed by his friend.
More than 47,000 people ran in Sunday’s race. New York City did not have a marathon last year. It was cancelled after hurricane sandy hit the area. Some of the participants in Sunday’s marathon also ran in the Boston Marathon but did not finish April’s race because of the bombings.
