A Plymouth County Sheriff’s Deputy is being hailed a hero for shooting and killing the suspect in a Taunton stabbing at a mall and a home on Tuesday.

The deputy sheriff was off-duty at the time, and happened to be inside the mall when the incident occurred.

According to sources, Jimmy Creed has worked at the Plymouth County Jail for about 12 years.

Creed warned the suspect, Arthur DaRosa, to drop his weapon before Creed shot Darosa.

Creed shot and killed DaRosa with one shot from his personal firearm.

According to the County of Plymouth, Creed was out to dinner with his family when DaRosa burst into the restaurant and started attacking people.

Creed was not hurt. He remained at the scene to render aid to the victims and DaRosa.

Taunton’s Mayor and the Bristol County District Attorney praised Creed for his quick work.

“Certainly our heartfelt prayers go out to all the victims of this senseless tragedy,” Mayor Thomas Hoye said. “I’d like to thank the off-duty sheriff. If it wasn’t for his heroic actions, there could have been more loss of life.”

The Plymouth County Sheriff Statement released a statement Wednesday:

“I am proud of Deputy Creed, his heroic actions and his ability to apply his professional training and restraint in an obviously traumatic and perilous situation.”

“It appears that but for the actions of the deputy sheriff, there well may have been other victims,” Bristol County District Attorney said.

Creed has a canine partner named Ronnie.

According to an online search, Creed and his canine partner found a lost 10-year-old boy earlier this year.
