A lesbian couple alleges in a lawsuit that a Honolulu police officer wrongfully arrested them for kissing in a grocery store while on vacation.
Courtney Wilson and Taylor Guerrero say in a federal lawsuit filed Tuesday that they were harassed and arrested because the officer didn’t like their public displays of affection in a Foodland store on Oahu’s North Shore.
Their attorney, Eric Seitz, says there was a scuffle while they were being arrested, and they were charged with felony assault on an officer. Charges were eventually dismissed. He says the incident happened on their second day on vacation from Los Angeles.
Seitz says Foodland apologized to the women.
Honolulu police spokeswoman Michelle Yu says the department can’t comment on pending litigation.
