NEW BEDFORD, MASS. (WHDH) - New Bedford police say a grinch couldn’t steal the holiday spirit from a woman’s family, because of the kind actions of another officer.
Someone stole a package off the front steps of the 82-year-old woman’s home last month.
Officer Jason Viera showed up to the elderly woman’s home, after she reported the shipment of steak and shrimp had been stolen.
She said she was disappointed because she was looking forward to a special dinner with her son.
So Viera went out to Stop and Shop and got the woman a gift card, so she could still enjoy dinner with her son.
Officer Viera also left a note in the woman’s mailbox saying that he hoped she and her son would enjoy their dinner.
To thank Officer Viera for his act of kindness, the New Bedford Police Department is hosting a ceremony Thursday morning, December 8, at police headquarters.
