GEORGETOWN, MASS. (WHDH) - Officials say the bones found at a home being searched by investigators are animal bones.
According to the Essex County District Attorney’s office, investigators have found three bones that belong to an animal.
The animal bones will be examined to determine how they came to be in the home.
The FBI, State Police and the Essex County District Attorney have been at the house on Chestnut Street since last week. Sources tell 7News a search warrant was executed and investigators are looking in the basement.
The homeowner, who lived at the house for decades, died last month at the age of 85. Sources said he was a hoarder, making it hard to navigate inside.
Sources said the search is connected to a cold case dating back to the 1970s or even earlier. While the Essex County DA said there is no danger to the public, neighbors said they do not know what is going on.
“Very nerve-wracking, my hands have been shaking,” said Noreen Berkland.
The DA’s office says the investigators will complete their work this evening at the Georgetown home and determine at a later date if they have to return to the site.
