(WHDH) — Every day, Nicole Nixon’s daughter steps outside to pay a visit to her old cat.

Nixon wants to know who is responsible for killing her family’s cat, Oreo — and her neighbor Lori Negrotti’s cat, Petu.

“You devastated a poor 3-year-old kid,” Nixon said. “You’ve devastated another family.

Negrotti lives down the street from Nixon, and last month, her cat was found by Nixon’s boyfriend outside their home.

Nixon’s cat was found in the garage just minutes later.

“I knew something had to be up,” Negrotti said.

Negrotti had tests done on her cat at the University of Connecticut. And it turns out, Petu was shot in the chest by what appears to be a pellet gun.

With help from the Rhode Island SPCA, Nixon decided to have Oreo’s body examined too. Doctors determined there was a projectile in the cat.

Rhode Island Police are now investigating both deaths and hoping to give answers to the pet owners.

“I think whoever did it should man up and take responsibility,” Nixon said.
