A pedestrian was hit and killed on in Mattapan on Saturday night.
The crash happened just after 10:35 p.m. on Morton Street at Canterbury Street.
Officials said the driver then took off.
According to police, the victim is Johnette R. Sims, 46, of Dorchester. She was determined to be dead at the scene.
Police located the suspect and the suspect’s car overnight Saturday into Sunday.
Anthony E. Buchanan, 39 of Dorchester was placed under arrest and charged with motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence of liquor, leaving the scene of a crash the caused personal injury or death, speeding, marked lanes violation.
Police said Buchanan was driving a 2016 Dodge Charger erratically and at a high rate of speed on Morton Street.
Evidence indicates the Charger struck the woman at the crosswalk. Police said it appears Buchanan briefly stopped then drove away.
An investigation led police to learn the car had been rented at Enterprise Rent-a-Car in Dorchester. Troopers then identified Buchanan as being the person who had rented the car.
Around 1 a.m. Sunday, Buchanan turned himself in. The Charger was then located on Mt. Pleasant Street in Boston.
Buchanan will be arraigned Tuesday in West Roxbury court.
