CHATHAM, MASS. (WHDH) - Officials are investigating a fatal fire in Chatham Monday afternoon.
Chatham Fire Chief David DePasquale said crews responded to a report of a fire at the 2.5-story single-family home on Main Street at 2 p.m. Monday. Firefighters observed heavy smoke coming from the structure and found a fire in the basement upon arrival. Crews pulled one man from the basement and transported him to Cape Cod Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Chatham Fire and State Police assigned to the offices of the State Fire Marshal and Cape & Islands District Attorney. They are being assisted by additional State Police assets and the Code Compliance & Enforcement Unit of the Department of Fire Services.
