LEOMINSTER, MASS. (WHDH) - Officials are investigating after a crane tipped over in a back yard in Leominster on Tuesday.

Emergency responders found a crane had tipped over on Overlook Drive and no one was injured and no homes were destroyed.

Julie Amell said she hired a crew to do some tree removal on her property. The crane they brought in to do the work crashed right next to her neighbor’s home onto their fence and storage unit.

The operator leaping out just in time.

“He hopped out onto the ground and it just collapsed. I was surprised I didn’t have a heart attack,” she said.

Officials said an outrigger intended to keep the crane upright went into a sinkhole, causing it to fall and crash through a fence.

“One of the jack stands was set up unknowingly on an old forgotten part of a septic system,” said Deputy Fire Chief Mark Burnett.

The company that owns the crane has not responded to 7NEWS’s request for comment.
