It has been an incredible year of weather – with records galore. Looking at the NWS Boston’s wrap of the year is very interesting! Here’s the link, if you’d like some light reading on this New Year’s Day:

Perhaps the most notable (in my opinion), was our 2nd coldest (and snowiest) February on record that was followed by the warmest December on record. So, in my opinion, we already "pre-paid" for the warmth we got this past month. We won’t have to pay in the future. :c) I’m going "glass half-full" with this one, because when looking at the other top three warmest Decembers, each of those years had a seasonal snowfall total in the teens (see graphic below)! We can’t tell you that is what will happen this year, but at least this little bit of information helps me sleep better at night.
For today, I do think we keep most of this cloud cover around. There will be peeks of sunshine throughout the day, but maybe this is "best case scenario" for the Winter Classic. I say that because, I understand the players had a hard time seeing the puck during yesterday’s practice rounds due to the glare of the sun on the ice. Highs will top out in the upper 30s to the low 40s (very seasonable for this time of year), and it will feel a bit chillier due to our westerly winds. We also can’t rule out the chance for some flurries popping up in the afternoon and early evening hours. This won’t amount to much (if anything at all), but more just some flakes flying around during the evening commute (if you have to work today).
The weekend looks great for getting out to the slopes! Very seasonable and sunny weather for both Saturday and Sunday. Really, weather for the next 7 to 10 days looks fairly quiet for us (no big storms) – but it does certainly look colder. An arctic blast is in store for Monday and Tuesday – with lows in the single digits Tuesday morning and highs both days topping out in the 20s. We’ll really want to get the kids prepared for the bus stop… When the kiddos started Winter Break, they were wearing shorts and flip flops. Now going back to school after the break, they’ll need to dress more like Randy from A Christmas Story. We also could be in for some ocean-effect snow on Monday. Still need to watch this closely, as it could end up putting down some accumulation (a couple inches or so). Stay tuned.
Happy New Year!! – Breezy
